Lord of Mysteries Beginner Guide: Everything to Know First
Last updated: 2026-08-22
Beginner Starter Guide & Progression Roadmap
This Lord of Mysteries beginner guide covers everything a new player needs before creating a character: what the game actually is, how its two storylines run in parallel, how progression works without classes, and which pathway to consider first. The short version — pick a pathway that matches the combat role you enjoy, learn the acting method early, and never ignore your sanity.
What Kind of Game Is This?
Lord of Mysteries is an open-world MMORPG built in Unreal Engine 5 by SPARK NEXA, Kuaishou's in-house studio, adapting the web novel by Cuttlefish That Loves Diving. It is one of the largest Chinese MMO projects attempted, with a reported team of more than 600 developers and over four years of development. The world is Victorian-steampunk with occult horror underneath.
The game launched in mainland China on August 21, 2026 for PC, Android, and iOS. No global release date has been announced To be confirmed.
You Don't Play Klein — You Live Beside Him
The story runs on two parallel lines. The classic line retells Klein Moretti's canonical journey from Sequence 9 Seer toward the Fool, with the Tarot Club cast rendered in cinematic quality. Your line belongs to an original character you create, choosing your own pathway, factions, and answers.
The developers have said seasonal main-story outcomes can depend on what enough players collectively choose to do. That makes your decisions part of a server-wide narrative rather than a private instanced story.
The Five Kinds of Content
Official materials describe the game's content in five buckets. Combat is action-based with manual aiming and dodging, covering story dungeons, large raids, world bosses, and PvP from 3v3 up to faction warfare. Exploration spans a seamless world from Tingen's streets to ruins, mountains, and the sea, with bicycles, carriages, automobiles, and flight shown in official footage.
The remaining three buckets are slower and stranger. Leisure content includes gathering, farming, clubs, balls, and street festivals. Your original story uses TRPG-style dice checks that can swing events. The novel's story delivers Klein's chapters as high-production playable content.
Pathways, Potions, and the Acting Method
There are no classes. You advance along a pathway of ten sequences by brewing advancement potions from formulas and ingredients, then digesting each potion through the acting method — genuinely behaving like the role your sequence names. A Seer who never divines will stall; a Bard who never sings will not progress cleanly.
Six pathways are playable at launch: Seer, Spectator, Warrior, Mystery Pryer, Apprentice, and Bard. Each maps to familiar MMO roles — ranged control, support, frontline, mobility, and so on — so MMO instincts transfer even though the terminology does not.
Sanity: The Counterweight
Witness too much, and control slips. The sanity system punishes careless exposure to the occult, and losing control entirely carries permanent consequences. Treat sanity as a resource you budget, not a meter you ignore.
How to Prepare
- Read or watch the source material. The game leans on novel knowledge; the 2025 donghua adaptation is the fastest catch-up.
- Pick a pathway early using our pathways guide and tier list.
- Check the system requirements — the PC client asks for 80 GB of free storage.
- Use official channels only for downloads and accounts. Third-party APK mirrors and account sellers are unsafe.
